Anshika, a vibrant four-year-old from Delhi, was born with Spina Bifida, a birth defect where the spine and the membranes around the spinal cord do not close completely during early pregnancy development. Despite receiving a pro bono surgery and subsidized physiotherapy, Anshika struggles to lead a life even close to what one would consider ordinary let alone comfortable. Following complications from her surgery, including infections and nerve damage, Anshika has been unable to attend school, play, or make friends like other children her age. The damage caused by these complications has led to her losing sensation in her left leg, leaving her dependent on her parents for even the simplest tasks, such as walking and using the restroom. The lack of sensation means that even basic bodily functions require assistance, making each day a struggle. Anshika is a bright, talkative little girl who loves playing with her younger sister, Yashika, and brings joy to everyone around her. Yet, despite her loving nature, Anshika lives in constant fear, reluctant to leave the safety of her home. Her parents are doing everything they can to care for her, but the situation is becoming increasingly difficult, both emotionally and financially. There is a pressing need for advanced pediatric physiotherapy, regular check-ups (including MRIs), specialized braces, and a catheter to help Anshika live more comfortably and, with time, regain some sensation in her legs. Though there have been minor improvements, they have come slowly mainly due to delayed access to the necessary medical care. Anshika’s family is doing everything they can to support her, but they need help to ensure she has access to the therapies and treatments she desperately needs. Let’s give this little warrior the chance to smile, laugh, and take one more step towards a brighter future.
